Guide outdoor humidity transmitter

Outdoor Humidity Transmitters, also known as Outdoor Humidity Measuring Transmitters or Outdoor Humidity Probes, play a central role in monitoring and controlling humidity in outdoor applications. Our Outdoor Humidity Transmitters provide precise measurements and standardized output signals, optionally with additional temperature measurement.

We have compiled a guide for you on what to consider when selecting, purchasing, installing, and operating your Outdoor Humidity Transmitter.

What is an Outdoor Humidity Transmitter?

An Outdoor Humidity Transmitter measures outdoor humidity and converts it into a standardized electrical signal. This signal, which is output either as a 0–10 V or 4–20 mA output signal, can be transmitted to control systems, regulators, or display systems to accurately monitor and control humidity levels. These transmitters are designed for use in harsh outdoor conditions. You can find an overview of our humidity transmitters here

For which applications do I need an Outdoor Humidity Transmitter?

An Outdoor Humidity Transmitter is used in various outdoor applications where humidity monitoring is critical. These include building monitoring to control humidity and prevent mold and structural damage. In agriculture, they play a key role in regulating the microclimate to ensure optimal conditions for plants and animals. Outdoor humidity probes also help monitor humidity influences in outdoor industrial installations, improving the efficiency of processes and equipment. They are also used in air conditioning and ventilation systems to accurately measure and regulate the humidity of outdoor air.

Advantages of Outdoor Humidity Transmitters compared to other transmitters

Outdoor Humidity Transmitters offer several advantages compared to other humidity measuring devices designed for indoor use. These transmitters are optimized for outdoor use and are characterized by their robust design, which withstands extreme weather conditions, temperature fluctuations, and contamination. They are often more durable and precise in demanding environments. Thanks to the available 0–10 V and 4–20 mA output signals, they provide flexibility in integrating into existing control systems. Models with displays also allow immediate reading of measurements directly on-site, increasing user-friendliness.

Advantages of different designs

Our Outdoor Humidity Transmitters are available in four variants, each offering different advantages depending on the application. The transmitters with a 4–20 mA output signal are available with or without a display. The version with a display allows for direct on-site reading and is particularly suitable for precise measurements over long distances. The version without a display is more cost-efficient and ideal for remote locations. Similarly, the 0–10 V variants offer either a display for easy reading or a robust, efficient option without a display for straightforward installations.

What factors influence the lifespan and performance of an Outdoor Humidity Transmitter?

The lifespan and performance of an Outdoor Humidity Transmitter are heavily influenced by environmental factors such as contamination, extreme weather conditions, and UV exposure. Protective measures like sintered caps or sunshields help maximize performance and lifespan.

Where can I find all the technical data on Outdoor Humidity Transmitters?

All technical data, such as data sheets, operating instructions, and declaration of conformity, can be found on the respective product pages or here. These documents can be downloaded directly.

How is an Outdoor Humidity Transmitter installed?

Install your outdoor transmitter with sufficient distance from ventilation openings, windows, or doors, preferably on the north wall, or alternatively on the west or east side of the building. Avoid direct sunlight and rain. If necessary, use a sunshield. Please route the cables downwards so that rainwater can drip off properly. Make sure to consider the permissible environmental conditions during installation. The device is designed for use only in pollutant-free, non-condensing air (< 95% RH). The sintered filter protects the humidity sensor in outdoor and duct probes from dust, which could distort the measurement results. Regular maintenance in case of contamination is therefore important. Avoid touching the humidity element to prevent inaccurate measurements.

What accessories are available for outdoor humidity probes?

Suitable accessories such as sintered filters and sunshields protect the humidity probes from environmental influences and extend their lifespan. These accessories are specifically designed to enhance the accuracy and durability of the sensors.
